Laser Training Courses and Curriculum
The Laser Hair Removal Course is designed to properly train the student in the science and application of a type 4 laser hair removal device for the removal of hair. Graduates may find suitable employment in Medical Spas, Physicians offices, and laser hair removal device companies.
This course is approved by the Department of State Health Services and the Texas Workforce Commission for the State of Texas LHR Technician certificate.
In order to become fully certified as a Laser Hair Removal Technician, the Texas Department of State Health Services requires a 40 hour classroom session, plus a hands-on component requiring students to complete 100 laser hair removal treatments under the direction of a Senior Laser Hair Removal Technician or Certified Laser Hair Removal Professional (CLHRP).
Vein Reduction/ Pigmented Lesion Removal/Laser Facial (8 Hours)
This seminar provides classroom theory and clinical hands-on practice with small vessel/telangiectasia reduction. Students will also learn laser facial techniques and isolated pigmented lesion removal. These procedures will enhance a spa/clinic’s ability to meet the demands of reversing the signs of aging.
Intense Pulse Light for PhotoFacial and Skin Tightening (8 Hours)
This seminar will teach students to perform Photo Rejuvenation and Skin Tightening treatments using the latest techniques in IPL. IPL theory, treatment endpoints and safety guidelines are just a few topics that will be addressed. Erasing the signs of sun damage is one of the leading treatments in the cosmetic laser industry.
Laser Tattoo Removal (8 Hours)
Tattoo removal is one of the fastest growing desired treatments in the cosmetic laser industry. Students will learn the theory and technique using a Q-Switched laser for Tattoo Removal. This seminar will include Q-Switched photoacoustic theory, hands-on treatments and safety guidelines.
Body Contouring and Cellulite Reduction (8 Hours)
The Body Contouring and Cellulite Reduction seminar will focus on treatments to reduce cellulite and reshape body areas using the latest technology in body contouring. Students will be exposed to non-invasive cellulite reduction, treatment guidelines and hands-on treatments.
Fractional Skin Resurfacing (8 Hours)
This seminar will include theory, demonstration, and hands-on procedures using fractionated laser devices. Students will learn to use the latest laser equipment safely while offering an efficacious treatment. Use this knowledge to meet the demand of a growing anti-aging treatment market.
These courses include in-depth education and hands-on injection training with the Botox and Dysport products, along with the latest Hyaluronic fillers. The courses are designed for students wishing to incorporate these services immediately into their new or existing business.
Microdermabrasion (4 Hours)
This seminar provides classroom theory and clinical hands-on practice. Microdermabrasion is a technique which consists of manual exfoliation of the skin's outer surface. The tip of the wand used in Microdermabrasion is made of natural diamond chips, which polish the skin and remove dead cells. The result is smooth, shiny and healthy looking skin. The natural diamond tip is new technology that is easier to control than prior methods and it doesn't irritate the skin. These procedures will enhance a spa/clinic’s ability to meet the demands of reversing the signs of aging.
Microneedling (4 Hours)
This seminar will teach students to perform microneedling treatments that use multiple micro needles that vertically pierce the skin. This enhances rejuvenation results and is far safer for the client because there is much less epidermal damage. The automatic vibrating function of the Dermapen increases the effectiveness of treatment by increasing absorption of products, while reducing pain and discomfort.
Dermaplaning (4 Hours)
Dermaplaning is a simple and safe procedure for exfoliating the epidermis and ridding the skin of fine vellus hair . This hair often causes a buildup of dirt and oils in the follicles, so removing the hair gives the patient healthier looking skin. Students will learn the theory and technique that is most often used on patients with rough, dry skin, superficial hyperpigmentation, mild acne scarring, or fine lines and wrinkles. The treatment results in a more refined, smooth, “glowing” appearance.
Chemical Peels (4 Hours)
This seminar gives the foundation of chemical peels with an emphasis on: ingredients, strength, how they affect the skin, and anticipated results. This seminar also addresses how chemical peels are administered; what precautions must be taken; and contraindications are discussed as well. A greater emphasis on light peels, including Alpha Hydroxy Acid (AHA) peels and Beta Hydroxy Acid (BHA) peels will be presented. There will also be a discussion of the skin, including anatomy, physiology, and skin conditions - as well as discussion regarding antioxidants and free radicals of the skin and body; and various vitamins, extracts, and chemical peel acids that can treat the skin.
Laser Treatment of Nail Fungus (4 Hours)
This seminar provides classroom theory and clinical hands-on practice. Laser treatment of nail fungus is a technique which consists of treating nail fungus with a laser or photodynamic therapy — intense light irradiates the nail after it's been treated with an acid. However, this new treatment may not be available everywhere.
Laser treatment of toenail fungus is a revolutionary breakthrough procedure in treating nail fungus infection. Laser fungus toenail treatments do not cause cuts or burns and thus has the advantage of patients being treated without reported discomfort. Studies on laser treatment for toenail fungus have been extremely encouraging, and to date, no known side effects have been found. Long-term effects for laser treatment of toenail fungus seem just as promising. Coupled with good hygiene of the toes, and follow up treatment with a topical anti-fungal creams, patients should experience good, long-term result in the elimination of the toe nail fungus.
Laser nail fungus treatment procedure surpasses those of the more dangerous medications with an effective success rate around 80% in clinical studies showing the fungus to be safely destroyed.
Continuing Education Units (CEU’s) Training
The following courses have been approved by the Texas Workforce Commission, or the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation, or the Texas Department of State Health Services as accredited courses to satisfy annual CEU requirements.
Anatomy and Physiology of Skin and Hair (1Hour)
In this Module the student will learn:
1. Anatomy of skin: the makeup of skin and it’s structures
2. Anatomy of Hair: The makeup of a hair follicle
3. Physiology of Skin: The different functions of the skin as an organ
4. Physiology of Hair: The different cycles of Hair growth and cells in the hair that are targeted by laser.
5. How laser affects the hair.
Laser Treatment of Ethnic Skin Types (1 Hour)
In this Module the student will learn:
1. Differences between Ethnic and Caucasian skin.
2. Problems that may arise with Ethnic skin.
3. What Precautions to take when using lasers with Ethnic skin: Which lasers are correct for darker skin types and why.
4. Potential Complication from lasers with skin of color.
Sterilization, Disinfection, and Safety in the Medical Spa (1 Hour)
In this module the student will learn:
1. The difference between sterilization and disinfection.
2. Different methods of sterilization
3. The Blood borne Pathogens Act (OSHA)
4. Identify safe practices in the spa or clinic

To achieve the State of Texas Laser Hair Removal Technician Certification, one must fulfill 2 parts. First part is classroom training in which participants will receive 40 hours of theory training. The second part (Practicum) is the hands-on training where one must complete the required 100 laser hair removal treatments.
In addition to bestowing the most modern in health related aesthetic instruction, Avante Laser Training Institute is certified by the Texas Department of State Health Services as a certification training institute for Laser Hair Removal candidates. The State of Texas put into law new legal guidelines in 2010 which requires each Laser Hair Removal provider to follow the specifications of Texas Administrative Code 289.302. This regulation determines specifications for radiation safety in the using of lasers and pulsed light devices for hair removal treatments. Specifically in Section 289.302 (i-j), the Department of State Health Services mandates certification for those individuals handling a laser hair removal equipment in Texas.
