The most commonly treated muscles in the upper face are the Frontalis, Procerus, Corrugator supercilii, Depressor supercilii and the Orbicularis oculi.

What is Botulinum Toxin Type A?

Botulinum toxin type A is a 900-kD neurotoxin complex-a purified protein. Botox is used for muscle spasms of the face or other localized areas, twitching of the eyelid, muscle spasticity, proper alignment of the eyes, hyperhydrosis, migraines and overactive bladder disorders.

Acetylcholine (a neurotransmitter) is a chemical messenger found in the nerve cells. When acetylcholine is released it transmits a nerve impulse and causes the muscle to contract. With the absence of activity, the muscle is weakened leading to paralysis of the muscle. The effect is temporary because the nerve fibers have the ability to regenerate after a few months. After 3-4 hours Botulinum Toxin Type A has completely bound to its receptors so there is no risk for further migration. The possible side effects are headaches, respiratory infection, flu syndrome, eyelid droop, nausea, redness at injection site and bruising.

If you are pregnant, breastfeeding, muscle disorders or a history of allergic reactions to any product with BTX-A or its ingredients (human albumin and sodium chloride) you should avoid using Botulinum.

If you use Aspirin, Ibuprofen, Naproxen, Prescription blood thinners, St. John's Wort, Vitamin E, or Alcohol you will increase your chances of bruising. Arnica Montana is an herb which helps improve bleeding and inflammation.

Dysport was FDA approved in 2009 for the glabella and cervical dystonia. Dysport has an excellent track record in Europe x 7 years prior to approval in the USA.

What is hyaluronic acid?

Hyaluronic acid is a natural complex sugar found throughout all living organisms that retains water – absorbing more than 1,000 times its weight – and adds volume to the skin's surface. In addition, hyaluronic acid binds with collagen and elastin and transports essential nutrients to these fibers. The triple combination of collagen, elastin and hyaluronic acid provides structure, elasticity and volume to the skin and contributes to its overall appearance. Restylane, Perlane, Captique, Hylaform, Juvaderm Ultra, Juvaderm Ultra Plus, Prevelle Silk and Elvesse are all hyaluronic acid fillers.
